I Think We Made A Mistake Not Choosing Mike Pettway as Chief

This is My Opinion not Mikes...
I'm not sure after all the BS he would even want to be chief, but we do need someone who lives here...

Link to Chief You Just Don't Get It

You live 40 miles away, there's a 3 out of 4 chance you won't be here or won't be able to get here in a major event like an earthquake. So who's in charge Mike? He's the only firefighter who lives here, he's the only one we can depend on being here in a major event. We need a fire chief who lives in the fire district. And Yes we can require the fire chief to live in the fire district.

Why So Many Half Truths? We have been told at board meetings that we can't require firefighters to live in the fire district, that's true. Section A of ARS 48-824 says "A fire district shall not impose any residency requirement on any firefighter as a condition of employment."

I love the law.... you see they didn't tell us about Section B of ARS 48-824 it says "This section does not apply to executive-level firefighters" like the fire chief.

Mike has more years of fire fighting experience than Tim, but more importantly, he knows the area and the people. He lives here so he understands what we need in EMS because his family is here too.
How many times do crews who live outside the fire district call Mike for directions?

I thought it was pretty dirty of Tim to mislead the board by telling them the fire chief had to be a paramedic because he had to sign for drugs at the hospital. Another half-truth, a paramedic needs to sign for medications, but the chief doesn't need to be a paramedic.

The paramedic who uses the medications from the drug box during the ambulance run, signs for replacement medications while they're at the hospital.

Tim has a few volunteer firefighters and that's good, but in a 30 day period we had 79 EMS calls and not one fire call. During that time we had numerous EMS calls within an hour or so of each other.

It took 3 hours to get someone to a cardiac call.
It took 2 hours to get someone to an 8 month old baby with a head injury, and then the LMRFD ambulance couldn't transport because there was only one person on the ambulance. Then the parents were given the choice to wait for AMR ambulance to come from Kingman, or drive their child the 40 miles to KRMC.

This is My Opinion
I didn't think Tim made good choices as a paramedic, and he's not making good decisions now.

Take this little test before reading on...
You get a call to give a sick person a ride but you're delayed and it takes 20 minutes to get there.
You have two choices;
Load the patient into the car and drive 35 minutes to the emergency department for treatment. Total transport time 35 minutes...

Load the patient into the car, call a helicopter and drive 2 miles to the landing zone to meet the helicopter. You wait 30 minutes for the helicopter arrive, it takes 15 minutes to land and load the patient. Then there's a 30 minute flight time to the emergency department for treatment.
Total transport time 75 minutes.
Your choice?

  1. So do you have proof of these calls Jay. And I have been in this area for 30 plus years and I have been an emt/firefighter and I think our department is doing the best it has ever done. We have a medic and an met on 24/7of everyday. Tim has done a great job with this department. And yes Mike does know the area very well. Maybe instead of complaining we should have mike teach these medic the area. Could mike do the job as chief. Yes he could. But Tim is doing a good job.and Tim is medically trained where mike is not.
