Fire With Injuries 17384 Magmolia

On August 6th there was another structure fire where someone was injured. The LMRFD responded with Engine 411 and other fire rigs, leaving the LMRFD ambulance 3 miles away at the fire station.

Like in the Mikonis fire in November, AMR ambulance was called from Kingman. In both fires people with significant burns had to wait 40 minutes for a paramedic ambulance, while the LMRFD nonprofit ambulance sat only miles away.

  1. It is unfortunate that the LMRFD can only afford 2 personnel on duty in Dolan and 1 in Meadview. It has been a long hard haul the last 2.5 years pulling out of a million$$ in debt caused by previous over-staffing. We are just now able to begin looking forward to better days.

  2. Almost every other fire district that's 1/10th the size of the LMRFD has volunteers. When the average house fire takes 10-12 minutes from start to fully involved. A sudden cardiac arrest, dead in 10 minutes.

  4. Have you asked around to see if anyone is interested in volunteering? We had volunteers at one time. Some were dedicated and trustworthy. There were no qualifications or background checks required. Our liability insurance company began demanding that. The community demanded it. People must trust that the fire and EMS personnel entering their homes and handling their bodies are trustworthy and trained for the purpose. When we began doing the background checks, suddenly most of our volunteer department went away. Training requirements weeded out all but 2 of the remaining ones. They were finally dropped when AZ Dept of Economic Services (Unemployment) began requiring that volunteers be imputed a wage equal to a paid employee at entry level performing the same job, for unemployment purposes. The LMRFD was forced to pay unemployment claims for volunteers who never answered when they were called to come in.
